The Video Platform Grants Viewers Control to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that allows them to cut down on the quantity of AI-made videos appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the company disclosed that it now features more than 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a global rollout. This shift coincides with a rise in AI content, spurred by new content generation software.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that approximately a tenth of the fastest-growing channels on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is considered mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is often illogical or dreamlike.

Our research shows that numerous viewers appreciate content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to informative clips, and we intend to give people the ability to adjust the amount of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform shared that there are presently over a billion videos on its service identified as artificially created. Collectively, over 100 mn media items are uploaded to the app every day, making AI-generated material a minor part of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Users will be able to limit or boost the level of AI content they view by accessing the content preference option in the platform and picking the AI content topic. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the filter encompass current affairs, clothing, cosmetics, and movement.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s rules mandate content makers to tag convincing AI-generated content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of public figures or emergencies. Any believable artificial content that is without a tag can be taken down under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the app will henceforth attach an AI-generated label to content created with its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for identifying artificial media. This action is designed to stop users from attempting to bypass the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

TikTok is also establishing a two million dollar awareness program for experts and organizations to produce learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will benefit non-profit groups focused on teaching coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The video-sharing app has defended its moderation strategy, amid controversy over proposals to lay off a large number of safety staff in Britain. It is planning to reduce 439 jobs in its content moderation team in London, with worker representatives and internet security professionals raising concerns that people are being substituted by automated systems.

A company official explained that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by removing the most harmful content prior to it gets reviewed by staff. TikTok announced a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to reliance on its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to combine people and machines to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we further consider it’s very important to minimize viewing of dangerous material as swiftly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is making a difference work at speed.”
